College football fans were treated to arguably one of the greatest regular season games of all-time on Saturday when the Alabama Crimson Tide withstood a furious comeback attempt by the Georgia Bulldogs, winning 41-34 and reshaping the playoff picture.
‘Bama now takes the top spot in our College Football Playoff projections, although Georgia remains firmly in the 12-team field, along with three other SEC teams.
We also have a new projected champion in the Big 12 following Utah’s loss to Arizona, which cleared space for the BYU Cougars – who are undefeated after taking down Baylor on the road in Week 5.
The spot reserved for a team from the Group of Five conferences is no longer projected to go to James Madison, despite another big win by the Dukes, but rather the UNLV Rebels – who despite losing quarterback Matthew Sluka went out and crushed Fresno State to move to 4-0 on the year.
