The Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team has its first recruit in the 2025 class. John Clark, a 6’9 center from Link Academy in Missouri, committed to Rodney Terry’s program on Friday according to Tobias Bass of The Athletic.

Clark chose Texas over offers from Kansas, Houston, Texas A&M, LSU, Ohio State, and Tennessee, among others.

“I chose Texas because I felt like it was home out of any other school that was recruiting me,” Clark told Horns247. “And then the coaches, the players, the alumni players, the campus, the culture is something I want to be a part of.”

Clark is a four-star big man who is ranked No. 40 in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, and is No. 45 in their individual rankings. He is the fifth ranked center in the class.

He was high school teammates with incoming Longhorn freshman Tre Johnson at Link Academy. Johnson is widely considered a one-and-done candidate for coach Terry’s team this season, but Clark’s long standing Longhorn fandom led him to commit anyway, as well as the platform playing for Texas and in the SEC provides.

“When I went on my official visit we talked about some things about Texas,” Clark said. “He was like ‘If you want that platform to showcase yourself, then this is the school to come to.'”

Texas opens up the 2024-25 season against Ohio State on Monday, Nov. 4, at 10:00 PM ET in Las Vegas.
