It’s been a rough season for Oklahoma State, which fell to 3-6 on the season with a 42-21 home loss to Arizona State. The Cowboys were projected to be a Big 12 contender, but it’s instead shaping up to be one of the worst seasons under coach Mike Gundy, who has been on the job since 2005.

Gundy raised eyebrows on Monday for comments made during a press conference over Zoom which were geared toward the perceived negativity surrounding the program.

On Wednesday, he apologized for those comments in a post on social media.

“I apologize to those who my comments during Monday’s media call offended,” Gundy wrote. “My intent was not to offend any of our fans who have supported us and this program through the years.”

In the comments in question, Gundy suggested that most of the negativity comes from people who are “failure(s).”

“In most cases, the people who are negative and voicing their opinions are the same ones that can’t pay their own bills,” Gundy said. “They’re not taking care of themselves, they’re not taking care of their own family, they’re not taking care of their own job. But they have an obligation to speak out and complain about others because it makes them feel better. But then in the end when they go to bed at night they’re the same failure they were before they said anything negative about anybody else.”

The Cowboys sit at 0-6 in Big 12 play and have to win out to reach bowl eligibility. That starts with a road trip on Saturday to face a TCU team that sits at 4-5 on the year.
