The college football regular season is in the books, and conference championship week is now upon us.
While we’re close to learning the inaugural 12-team field and the College Football Playoff picture is beginning to clear up, Rivalry Week did serve to complicate things a bit.
We saw quite a few major upsets, most notably a brutal fourth loss in a row from No. 2 Ohio State to unranked, 6-5 Michigan as Ryan Day will face a high-pressure playoff run. Miami’s hopes of reaching the CFP may have also ended with a road loss to Syracuse that knocked it out of the ACC Championship Game in favor of Clemson, whose own at-large chances came to an end with a loss to South Carolina but could still earn a spot with a win over SMU on Saturday in Charlotte.
The Hurricanes fell out of the top 10 entirely, while the Buckeyes dropped six spots to No. 8. Clemson dropped to No. 17, while Colorado and Syracuse entered the rankings. Tulane and Texas A&M dropped out entirely after frustrating losses to Memphis and Texas, respectively.
