The 2024 college football season is through Week 3, and the top teams are starting to separate themselves as conference play begins in earnest at the end of the month. The SEC remains the powerhouse conference, and after a dominant week for many of the biggest programs we have a shakeup at the top of our weekly projections for the 12-team College Football Playoff.
While Georgia secured a win over Kentucky to move to 3-0, the Bulldogs struggled up front in a 13-12 battle – making Kirby Smart’s team look vulnerable for the first time in a while. Meanwhile, Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Missouri all picked up big wins – either blowouts over G5 opponents or quality wins over power conference teams – or in Alabama’s case, both.
That results in a new team atop the CFP projections after Week 3, as well as half the field belonging to teams in the SEC. Plus, a new team has emerged as our favorite to secure the automatic bid out of the Group of Five conferences, while our ACC and Big 12 favorites remain in place for now.
