DJ Lagway, the true freshman starting quarterback for the Florida Gators and former No. 1 signal-caller in the 2024 recruiting class, had the Georgia Bulldogs on upset alert in the first half in Jacksonville.

Lagway and the Gators jumped out to a 10-3 lead after a pair of first-half interceptions from Bulldogs’ quarterback Carson Beck, but Florida, which is starting Lagway due to previous starter Graham Mertz suffering a torn ACL, saw the worst-case scenario late in the second quarter.

While running the ball, Lagway slipped and seemed to suffer a hamstring injury. After some time lying on the field, a cart was summoned to take the former five-star recruit off the field and into the locker room.

Redshirt freshman Aidan Warner, an offseason transfer addition from Yale who entered the season as the third-string quarterback, entered in Lagway’s stead.

Lagway was just 2 of 6 through the air before his injury for 47 yards, but one of those two completions was a 43-yard deep ball touchdown to Aidan Mizell.

Update: Coach Billy Napier told the ABC broadcast going into the half that Lagway had suffered a “pretty significant” hamstring injury. Lagway was later spotted in street clothes on the sideline wearing a cast and walking with crutches.
